Default Forced induction to the i2?

Ive been toying with the idea again of boosting the insight. I had it 2 years ago and went with the phev kit. Well, Ive reconsidered it with my tax refund coming up.

Id thought about the NOS kit for the Civic which also uses a 1.3 engine, but its all or nothing, not progressive. If I did go that route get the wet kit.

From what I can see from what little research I have done is that we have the l13a engine with pause i-VTEC and i-Dsi. It also seems this engine was used in the 02-03 Fit/Jazz and the l15a is the same except for its displacement.

The torque tops out at 4700 rpms at 80 something, then at 5700 rpms the hp tops out at 88 or so. Seems with these numbers the cam is ground for higher end power, so looks like the parts need to support that, like a 4 to 1 header for example unless the cam is replaced with a reground or its advanced a good ten degrees to lower the power band. Considering the low crusing rpms at highway speeds it should help with both drivability and mpg.

Infact several forums suggest using the turbo or super charger kit from the l15a engine for the l13a engine, just make sure the tuner, piggy back computer does something for the i-Dsi.

This would mean running premium fuel, like with NOS and boost would be limited to 5 psi or so without any internal mods.

Before I get too deep in this Ill try some shade tree mechanics stuff like disconnecting the egr, colder plugs, premium fuel just to name a few. I've already replaced the muffler with a straight piece of pipe and replaced the air filter with a kn just to name a few.

I see kings motor sports sells a kit for the l15a engine, however it said something about needing hondata in the fine print. I have contacted hondata and they do not have a tuner for the i2, nor will any hondata turner work on it.

Maybe there is someone who lives near them that can see them and investigate this more in person?

Next step is to hit the parts store, assuming they sell parts yet for the i2 and see if the part numbers match.

For example when I went to get axles for my 99 geo metro they had different part descriptions for the car with abs and without. I didnt know if mines had abs. We looked at both with and without abs and it was the same part number for the supplier.

Ive done this for other vehicle mods for previous vehicles Ive own. So, need to check exhaust gasket for the i2 and the fit with the l15a engine to see if the part number is the same, meaning it will fit, well, at least to the head. Then you got the down the firewall part and matching up with the other pipes.

Found some 4 to 1 headers on ebay for the l15a. I wrote them about it fitting the l13a. One guy said that isnt sold in the US, another said no.

Gonna hit the parts store once I look up the make and model of car that has the l13a and l15a in it to compare part numbers.

I'm right down the road from King. Happy to help anyway I can. I have been thinking about this myself for sometime. All I could find was Rotrex Rotrex A/S I would love to see this in person. I2 forced induction is something I dream of!

Great. I see from their facebook page they look like they know some stuff about Hondas and possibility do some tuning in house.

I guess you are a shoe in if they would be willing to take on the project and you got the funds.

I have the service manual so I can provide photos of the parts, like exhaust manifold. We need to know if it will fit to the head.

The plumbing, we can always make work. The other issue is the I-Dsi and i-Vtec. Is the kit designed for the i-dsi or just vtec l15a engine?

What fuel management do they use?

In the Honda world King is hands down one of best places to take your car. All in house tuning and custom parts if needed. The Rotrex is for i-vtec. I don't know about what fuel management. Just the Rotrex kit is about $6,500.00. All said and done 8-10k is what it would take to get it done right. About 1/2 of a new I2. It was just to much money at the time for my daily driver. Now if my I2 was just a weekend or a show car I might go for it. I would still love to see it done. Maybe some day.....

Opps, seemed I didnt mention that, but yeah, that is why I am interested in the turbo route. Way cheaper. Plus it looks like they made a kit that will fit, sort of.

Any performance shop can tune a vehicle, its just nice if it was DIY.

Maybe I need to hit a pc and read turbo willies thread?

Well, the phev kit is currently removed. Ill see if I can find a kid who is great at electronics to fix the converter. Not sure why the supercharger is soo expensive.

I see you can buy those belt driven compressors online for cheap. Then its just a matter of plumbing it up and getting your ecu tuned.

I was going to order the gasket for the l13a and l15a for the exhaust manifold to see if they are a match. I had decided to wait til I saw this video of my blown tacoma.
