Default Used/Dead IMA battery for sale?

My battery is getting fussy (2001 with 92k miles) and I am considering a diy replacement (6900maH with aa batts for $360) but would like to tear one apart to check out the feasability of transfering the various sensors. Where can I get a dead pack to play with?

Been "semi" tried.

See:

The IMA requires industrial quality cells else service life will be extremely shortened. These type cells can sustain a _very_ high amperage discharge rate, individual calls are spot welded into sub packs with screw lug terminals. The IMA pack's load peaks at 80A when cranking with the IMA motor. A typical and more sustained rate is 40A.

eBay has them for auction from time to time. Also as reported here haprecycling.com is a large auto recyclers. There are others too.

HTH!

I thought the Insight had "D" size batteries (120 of them - sticks of 6
spot welded together) As Insightful Trekker already said they are
industrial type...not off the shelf. My comment is only the physical size.
(just in case you decide to try it anyways)...By "fuzzy" do you mean
tons of recals...Is the IMA light on?...Even out of warranty, Honda may
replace it (or split the cost) if the IMA light is on with the bad battery
code. No harm in asking...If not look for a low mileage one in the
salvage yard...(after all, you would not want to go through the whole
process again within a few months)
