When i got the insight one thing i felt was a bit TOO mousy was the horn.. i have no issues with the size of my weenus. I don't mind having a tiny car.. but this little puppy deserves a large bark, so i got a dual octave 120db air horn from a semi.. i wanna put it in, but i need to tap the wires of the exsisting horn, but the location of the existing horn eludes me. WHERE is it?!?
i even tried putting my head in the engine and honking , but the damn thing is so high pitched it sounds like its coming from every direction..
Another helpful tip for newbies is to use " " around the keyword when using the search feature on this forum. Just don't ask me why you need to.

Speaking as someone with a degree in Audio Engineering, I can tell you that it is actually much harder to determine the source of low frequency sounds than it is high frequency sounds. That's why bats use ultrasonic frequencies for echo location. That's also why it is hard to tell which hooptie has their subs cranked (unless you see the body panels shaking )
Also, I believe the Insight has the same horn as most other Hondas. I don't think it sounds whimpier than the horns of most other Japanese cars.
Well, I don't think I've ever used the horn. (I'm Canadian eh!) I like the idea of a drop their pants air horn though. It reminds me of the fellow who put an air horn from a diesel locomotive into his car. Yes, I believe that IS illegal, but what an attention getter at railroad crossings!!!!! Or another friend whose car was attacked by a mild mannered Canadian wielding a baseball bat.
You might want to have a second switch for the air horn as I'm sure sometimes a little toot may be the most appropriate option. If you have ever had occasion to get twisted around in the drivers seat and rest your posterior on the wheel you know what I'm talking about.
Thanks for the laugh.

Hi Nykto,
Some time ago I did a horn mod to enhance my ability to get attention when people who didn't see my little car decided to move into my lane . http://community.webshots.com/user/jackmpg
If you go to this link, page two, you'll find my horn mod. Takes about 30 minutes to do. Leave the meep-meep factory horn in there. Get a 132 db low tone blaster horn from Advanced Auto Parts, about $12, to compliment the factory horn. Although the horn fuse is 10 amp the relay is rated for 20 amps. Change the horn fuse to a 15 amp. Cut away a little of the relay socket side wall so the red wire can come out the side. Let me know whatever questions you have. Now you'll get attention . Hope this helps, Jack
PS If you decide to remove the front bumper for any reason, the horn is "squeezed" in there over on the passenger side, there's instructions at the link. Go to page 1, "production turbo", page two. Takes about 20 minutes to get it off, carefully. A lot easier than it looks.

my EXACT thought process
(im also an audio tech)

my horn from harbor freight stuck on my trip back from SC to NY. I hit a large bump on the highway and the thing was just blasting away. i had to disconnect it before going on. no idea what happened, maybe time for a more "expensive" one.
welcome back
