Default Summer Sun - louvered hatch cover? tint windows?

Summer temps & sun in New England have me thinking I'll need AC or something less costly.

Does anyone have a source for a louvered hatchback cover that would shade the glass?

Any tips on adding window tint (sheet plastic) to side windows, top of windshield?
e.g. brand, % dark, methods, which/where ..?

unless you feel like making a louvre set from scratch, or modifying an existing unit, i think the way to go is a good, max legal tint job. no added weight or drag, looks good, hides stuff in the back, etc. mine cost 120 bux, took an afternoon, and looks great. much less heat coming in from the windows. i still use a sun shield in the front though.

WalMart has static-stick shades about 11x17"...

what i want to see is a louvered hatch cover that i can mount enough solar panels on to power a few small fans when the car is off.

If you search around in here you'll find a previous discussion on solar powered ventilation fans...

or

http://fungiart.com/insight/solarfans.html

i'm trying to figue out where i want to put my solar panels... on the outside of the hatch would be the best place imo. this way it actually blocks heat from entering the car in the first place as well as circuating hot air out.... plus you could tint the windows too.

both designs in the links above have the panels on the inside of the car which prevents you from useing tint and i'm sure reduces the efficency of the panels. of course if the panels are on the outside you have to worry about damage more.

edit-

i found a source for louvered rear covers.... they don't make anything for the insight

i might look up the measurements on what they do have and see if something could be modified to fit. we'll see how ambitious i'm feeling
