Default tired of leaving your gas cap behind?

tired of leaving your gas cap behind? how about this:

a short length of beaded chain and a small screw to hold it to the center of the cap. then just hook the chain on the whateveritis on the filler door.

hard to leave it behind now!

yeah, the gas station lobby is very strong in NJ. or the law-makers think their "subjects" are too stupid to pump their own gas. either way, i'm glad i dont live there. the only time anybody else but me touches my cars is for state inspection.

The UK Insights have a plastic moulded lanyard that does this job.

Although it is just short enough to prevent the cap from sitting in it's holder on the filler flap whilst refuelling, & just long enough that when the cap comes out of said holder it can bash the paintwork.

Always find I end up balancing mine in the gap whilst filling.

The Australian models also have a plastic lanyard to prevent cap loss. But also have a second short lanyard with a bead on the end. There is a little holder for the bead at the bottom of the filler cover so that the cap dangles down below the filler cover. The long lanyard is quite long enough for this to work. Quite nifty really.

I bought a plastic one on ebay and put it on mine (small screw into the top of the gas cap) works great. I just let it hang down while I'm gassing up, since the little holder on the back of the door doesn't work well (I have never been able to get the gass cap to stay there, which drove me nuts!)

How about just leaving the cap in your hand when you fill up?

gator: thats where i got the basic idea from! so i started scrounging through the parts collection and came up with the chain.

resist: that would be way too easy! and would look silly as a posted picture.

Did this mod two years ago and it's still going strong: Gas Cap Holder
