Default Component speakers that don't require cutting?

Hey Folks,

Right now I have some coaxial Infinity speakers in my Insight. I'm thinking about upgrading them to component speakers. After searching the forums, it seems like most people had to cut or grind the plastic behind the woofers to get them to fit. Do you know if there are any good component speakers that don't require grinding or cutting behind the woofers?

According to Crutchfield, the following speakers will fit:

Kicker 05KS62 (1 15/16" top-mount depth)
Polk Audio db6500 (2" top-mount depth)
Boston Acoustics SX60 (2 5/16" top-mount depth)
Polk Audio MMC6500 (2 1/2" top-mount depth)

It sounds to me like some of these will require cutting. Does anyone have experience with those speakers. Any comments regarding sound quality and installation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help,

James

Default Speakers

Any particular reason you don't want to do any cutting? Are you installing them yourself or having a pro do the install?

I had my Polks installed at Tweeter, Etc. and a small amount of trimming was required in the speaker cup area but nothing major. I thought about going with the components but decided against it because I didn't want cuts made where they would be visible if the speakers were removed.

You may be able to install the tweeters in the small triangular area near the front of the window and have them affixed with a strong 3M adhesive that could be removed later with solvent.

My Polk MMC-650s sound fantastic IMHO and coupled with a matching pair in the back and an Alpine 200 watt 4 channel amp the system is almost complete. I'm resisting the urge to add another Alpine amp!

I put in Infinity component speakers a few years ago. I can't remember the model number and it's probably long discontinued. Anyway, the trim ring fit nicely into the indent in the door and by using some extra long screws I was able to install the woofer without any cutting of the door. It sticks out a bit compared to the original speaker, but It's not a problem. I did need to drill some holes in the small trim piece to mount the tweeter.
