Does the Fit engine have the same mounting system and overall dimensions as the Insight? It would be so cool if the Fit drivetrain could be dropped into the Insight...

Not sure why you thought such a post was a good "fit" in Willies Turbo thread.

Post split into its own thread.

AFAIK since engine mounting dimensions aren't part of a Honda service manual (or any available manual for that matter) I don't know. You've gotta get out there and do the measurements.

Yes, and since Willie now has a Fit, he can actually do the measurements. Plus, he's a mechanical genius and so he'll do the measurements correctly, which I probably wouldn't...

Ok Dougie you got me

That would be the required Fit to make your post fit.

But it still wouldn't have fixed the frag(mentation) of the topic.

Now if only Willie will take you up on the challange.

Sincerely,

What's so special about the Fit drivetrain? Something like 100 or 108HP and a little less torque...

OK Dougie, here is the preliminary measurements.
Thanks for the challenge.........
...................................5S............. ................Auto
................................Insight........... ...............Fit "S"
Engine Bay Width.......34 1/8".........................33 1/4"
(Frame rail to rail)
Engine/Trans L...........30"...............................32 1/2"
Engine W...................16"........................... ....16"
Engine H....................23".......................... .....25 1/8"

Track.........................56.5"............... .............57.3"

It looks like a "possible".
Note:There is a lot of room for a turbo behind the Fit engine.

Willie

Thank you!

I was sort of hoping that Honda corporate rules would have required the engine and transmission mounts to be in the same places on both drivetrain... Anyway, if it "fits" into the chassis, a swap might be a good option if the battery or electronics situation gets impractical a few years from now...
