Rear Speaker location

I'm looking to put in aftermarket rear speakers in my insight. I need to cut through the upholstery, I'm wondering if anybody has an rear speaker template (that tells me where to cut through the upholstery) that comes with the OEM speaker kit.

Alternatively if anybody has rear speakers and wouldn't mind spending a few seconds measuring the location of the rear speakers (i.e. how many inches from the top and how many inches from the side....) it would be much appreciated....thank you.

If you move the seats forward you can unclip the upholstery and lift it to see the exact placement of the precut holes.

The depth will be your biggest limiting factor. I ended up having to build a couple of 1/2 inch spacers to fit my Polks back there, but it was well worth the effort. With 4 Polks, an Alpine amp and head unit and my Hi-speed ipod interface direct to the head unit this little car rocks!!!

Try listening to Canon by Zox at a stoplight. The bass will rock the car next to you! Plus it's a way cool song with electric violin!

I agree with spacebug that the easiest way to do it is to unclip the carpet and take a look. That's how I did it.

While on this topic: I'm getting ready to rig up my new system. I've gleaned so far that the Infinity 'shallow mount' 6.5" speakers work well in the front doors, but can one use normal depth speakers behind the front seats or do they need to be shallow ones too?

There is very limited depth for the rear speakers as well. If you really want a deeper speaker back there, you can always make a spacer to raise them up a bit. That's what I had to do with my polks.

From what I remember, you might even have less room in the back than in the fronts. If you make a spacer, just be careful it's not too big (especially if you have the seat all the way back).

There is about half an inch of white sound padding between the aluminum plate and the grey material, so the spacer should not be a problem.

SpaceBug was saying that if you move the seats forward and unclip the upholstery, you will expose the precut speaker holes. You mean these holes are directly behind the seats? Will I find speaker wires pre-installed? Before I start unseating and lifting carpet, I want to make sure that I am in the right area. T'anks.
