2000 cassette player really lousy - replace with later CD ?

I recently bought a red 2000 with the Honda cassette player. It is the worst sound I've experienced in over 20 years.

TWO QUESTIONS:
1. I am wondering if I can replace it with a later (2004, 05, or 06) Honda OEM version with a CD player ?

2. Is this a waste of time trying another Honda unit ?
Should I go aftermarket ?

1. yes. Just get a good aftermarket unit. Get some good speakers for the doors, and a sub for the back.

Forget about honda replacement. Almost any premium cd player will fit in the insight. I have amps under both seats, sub woofer in storage area and mb quartz speakers in door. system rocks.
