Default Update

The new MIMA systems final configuration is beginning to shape up.
The system price will be slightly higher than before, but will include the new mini discrete display. Final price will be determined once the boards and harnesses are built.
The second Joystick will still be offered.

The standard included display will be the mini discrete.

The bicolor and standard discrete will be available instead, while I have stocks of the PC boards.

The FAS option price will drop, as I am making a PC board for smaller relays, so the construction labor will be much less.

The harness will be offered in two versions.
The plug in version and the hard wired (solder connection) version. The cost of the plug in version will be more than the hardwired version due to the added parts and labor.

Still lots to do, but progress is finally being made.
The waiting list is up to 43 systems out of the 50 that I was planning to build, so I will be ordering for 100 systems.
The new harness and waiting for subcontractors is going to delay things some more, so realistically I am looking at August and into September.
I thank all of the patient people on the waiting list.

Default MIMA becomes a true plug in

Encouraged by a steady increase in interest in MIMA.
Waiting list:
http://www.99mpg.com/mima/people/
I will be offering MIMA as a full plug in this time, no more wire cutting, splicing, pin popping, just pull out the four MCM harness plugs, plug the MIMA adapter plugs into the MCM, then plug the stock harness back into the header, do the same at the ECM, and you are wired.
Details:
http://www.99mpg.com/mima/buymima/
A big investment in inventory is required since the pins and connectors are only available in large quantities, so tell your friends that were afraid of all the wiring that MIMA will be a plug in from now on.

Sweeeet! I'm on the list already so I think this means that I get an easier install. I think this is also going to mean that I need to do more to support Mr. Mike, and maybe that means buying more accessories or FAS or whatever it is Mike has to sell. Thanks for making the extra effort Mike! I have been spreading the MIMA word.

Thanks for all the hard work Mike.
I love the idea of "upgrade" to nearly "plug-n-play".

Did I ever tell you, 'YOU DA MAN!'

I want the FAS add-on also.
Slighty higher price is way worth it to me, and I'll bet pretty much everyone else will agree.
If I understand what you are saying, this will make it really easy to return the car to "stock" if I ever re-sell the car, correct?

Thanks Again, ( got the money waiting for you! )

I'd like your opinion. This is the mounting that I came up with. To make the flexi-stick I used some plastic speaker wire tubing, a coated thin coat hanger and of course electrical tape and zip ties. I did use the joystick unmounted for about two months and I can agree 100% with Mike - not the best idea. Don't bother with trying to stuff the joystick into a nintendo nunchuk _ just trust me.....

Anyway I have not figured out how or with what to "wrap" the joystick with . Ideas would be appreciated. and yes I did use touch up paint on the wooden balls (my kids like it!)

For those that are curious the gray box on the glove box is an indoor / outdoor thermometer which enables the monitoring of the pack temperature (thanks also to Mike for that idea)

The red led button low on the center console has nothing to do with mima - it's just a power switch for the subwoofer and the black switch right behind the shifter is an alternate FAS button.

I hope all those waiting for Mima will have their grins going this summer!!

I have all the amp Tyco connectors for the plug in, but still need to source the battery fan and current sensor connectors. anyone recognize these connectors, or the manufacturer? no logos that I can see.

Wayne, that "joystick" is not my cup of tea. A bit too intrusive for my taste. But that's the beauty of this whole thing... you can customize to your heart's content and get it the way YOU like it.

I don't own one (yet) so I've not been able to "tinker". So far, I'm leaning to the shift-knob mounted idea, shown on Mike's website. What did you not like about that "system"?

I really liked the "Nunchuk" idea.
Ever try using the nunchuk as-built and connecting the wires to the MIMA input?
It may not be a perfect match for the ohms or whatever, but may work with enough practice.
I like the durable "feel" of the Nunchuk and the durable case.
Thanks for sharing your ideas... by sharing, you can spark new ideas.

So what are the technical requirements for a joystick, if one wanted to substitue a whole something else for the one Mike provides, or use the second port?

A MIMA joystick has two analog pots, that are spring centered, so they sit at about 2.5 V when in center. This voltage is read by the 10 bit A/d in the microcontroller.
To use a different transducer, you just have to swing on either side of 2.5V, when representing the full joystick travel.
The joystick board has the system 5V and Ground available.
If you need a blank joystick board just let me know.
The built in joystick calibration routine may allow tweaking of the directions and sensitivities. Repeatability at the return to center position is important or you will be always activating assist or regen.
The Joystick ramp in the calibration routine is an adjustable response time control that can smooth too rapid of a signal if required.
Just keep the MIMA kill switch handy if it starts to go whacky.
