Default Rear OEM Speaker Installation

I installed the OEM rear speakers this weekend and thought I would post pictures. It took less than one hour to do both sides with the most difficult part was trying to work in the limited space behind the seats. It would have made it much easier to remove the seats but may have taken a little longer. Tools required include a pen or marker, a phillips srewdriver and a razor blade or scissors.

Picture 1 is the stock cargo area with no speaker:

Picture 2 shows the template provided by Honda indicating the speaker position.

Picture 3 shows the location marked by using the template.

Picture 4 shows the carpet cut away with the underlying insulation.

Picture 5 shows the insulation cut away revealing the plastic speaker hole cover.

Photo 6 shows the plastic cover removed.

Photos 7 shows the plastic cover removed and the speaker connection located.

Photo 8 shows the OEM Honda rear speaker kit.

Photo 9 shows me inserting one of three plastic screw receivers.

Photo 10 shows the speaker receiver placed over the hole.

Photo 11 shows the speaker installed with the provided 3 screws.

Photo 12 shows the grill snapped in place.

Wow, nice job with the pictures! We've been considering adding rear speakers to our '01 CVT (the '00 manual already had them when I bought it)... the template comes in the box with the rear speakers from Honda, I guess? Are the speakers any good?

Thanks for the post!

Yes, the template comes with the kit. If you need it I could try scanning it and emailing it to you. Just PM me with your email address.

The speakers are the same quality as the front door speakers. I plan to upgrade all my speakers later when I upgrade my OEM cassette with a CD player.

Anybody know if you can buy the kit minus the speakers? I doubt it. The whole kit is $56.40 from Handa-Accessories.com Probably worth it even if you throw the speakers away just to get all the nice factory mounting components.

Your pictures make the grill look flush, is it? This picture definitely shows it sticking out somewhat.

awesome diy, thanks for all the pics!

i really appreciate the desire to go oem most of the time, but....

the template is uneccessary, you can feel the plug and just cut.
the bracket is uneccesarry, a cut 50 cent piece of foam will do the same.
the speaker cover only hinders the transfer of clear audio.
the speaker itself is terrible.
the screws are standard issue.
the grommets are the only thing you need, and they are 26 cents each...$1.56.

i do like the oem look though!
