Default Getting fresh engine, needs same tranny type?

Hi,
I may be installing a fresh used engine, do I have to make sure the new engine was the same transmission type as
my old engine ( manual ) ?
Or is the engine the same irregardless of what transmission it will bolt to ?

ps: I'm picking up my first Insight on Sat

Thanks
-Les

There are differences in engines between the two models (MT vs CVT) so if you have a manual transmission now, you should get an engine that came out of a MT model Insight. Not to say it would be impossible using a CVT engine with some mods needed but you would have a lower power engine with the wrong pistons (lower compression)...This may cause some funky issues with being able to sustain lean burn as you normally would. There are many other things that can wrong too behind the scenes with sensors and catalytic converter readings out of spec that may drive the ECM crazy....I would not recommend it
