Default need swap: Newer engine into 2001 car ?

I want to swap a fresh engine into my 206K 2001 5 speed Insight.
I would like to use a recent engine, but I'm not sure they changed anything past 2001 that might make this swap
difficult. For example, wiring harness ( I could use old one ) , Injectors ? What else ? Cam sensor? Other electrical ?

I would appreciate any experience or advice you guys might have.

Thanks
-Les

OK, no need for a different year !
I found a 2001 engine and 5 speed with 32K miles for $1600 shipped to my house.
Now I need to buy a new clutch kit and some hoses and belts from someplace.

206K miles. It ticks a lot and grinds 3 to 2 shifts.

Considering that the Insight wants you to short shift constantly lugging the engine, and it's only 1 liter, I'm pretty
impressed that they go so long.
In the old days, you used to hear "never lug the engine, it's bad for it". Now it's " lug the engine, it's good for your FE "
Honda must have beefed up the parts to allow all that stress, I assume.
My transmission also grinds the 3 to 2 shift, which I hate. So I'll shuck it like a clam, and give it a new lease on life.
I just got the car, knowing that I will have to do some work, so I'm OK with it.
If the FE goes up with a new battery, I may even wait to swap the engine and keep it for later.

I can check the valve train and do a leak down test to see how worn the existing engine is. Maybe it's OK for a bit. The tranny
grind is not fun, however.

two questions.
did you check the valve lash, and adjust accordingly? maybe the engine is fine, just needs a valve adjustment? the insight engine does tick, especially b4 warmup.

have you tried rev matching and double clutching yet? works like a charm to keep from grinding for many insighters, unless of course your tranny is too far gone. the 2-3 synchro is the first to go, but since purchasing my car a few months ago, I have double clutched all shifts, and rev matched all downshifts, and I can honestly say that it would appear that this practice brings synchro wear to a relative halt.

Otherwise, let the schucking commence.

I'll check lash soon, the guy I bought it from said it was recently done.
It's more of an internal sounding tick, maybe more like a slight knock, but maybe it's weak on
a cylinder due to bad lash on a cylinder.
