Subjective Non-OEM tire review
I've replaced the OEM tires on my 2001 Insight/5-speed with Goodyear Regatta's sized 175/65 R14 (smallest width/aspect ratio available).
Compared to the OEM tires I had before, they are significantly quieter, ride more comfortably, very very smooth, and at the moment, they perform better in the rain, subjectively corner better (I like to carry speed into the corners so I can carry speed out of them, lol) and as of yet, I've noticed little discernable mileage (mpg) loss.
Keep in mind that my most recent experience with the OEM bridgrestones were when they were certainly in need of replacement. However, even when new I loathed the performance of the tires...particularly their wet driving performance and their affinity for hydroplaning in even the most minor puddles. I didn't trust them for use in snow so I used winter only tires from late november to Mid-march (Winterforce tires).
The day I replaced them, driving home felt like I was in a whole new car...my average that day going into work was around 62, and on my way home I averaged 65 with a moderate tailwind and slightly higher temps (low 60's versus high 60's) overrall, the mileage is improving and is what I would expect even with the OEM's mounted due to improving/warming weather.
If there is a mileage loss, to me it appears worth it due to improved comfort and safety. At worst it's a mild compromise.
While I would have given the OEM tires a 1 rating on a scale of 5, I'd give these regatta's a 4 on a scale of 5.
