Default HOT AIR MOD....

Does anyone have a link to the thread for the hot air intake mod? Any pics of it done on an insight? It seems here in NY, at the end of May, the temp is at best 60-70 degrees tops at mid-day. Usually, it's colder (about 40 degrees) in the mornings too, when I initially leave for work. My car takes about 4 miles worth of driving (55-60 mph,) before it heats up enough to get into lean burn. Usually, it's colder (about 40 degrees) in the mornings too, when I initially leave for work. I'd like to perform this mod to get into lean-burn faster, but can't find the thread or any pics. Any help would be appriciated!
Thanks guys!

Don't have a link, but it sounds like you could start with a radiator block, too. Maybe enough to cover half the area...

It's not hard, though. Just run some appropriately-sized tubing from near the cat heat shield to the intake connection on the air filter box (swapping for the standard intake hose). A Scangauge or similar that will show you the intake air temp is helpful for knowing when to swap the standard intake back (and remove radiator block). I don't see much benefit above 120 F or so, but on a long hill climb on a hot day, the IAT can go to 140 or more.

Although a bit more complicated to setup, here is the mod I made back in 2004 to create an automatic mix of warm / cool air intake:

Any hot air modification should increase your mpg by allowing you to get in lean burn earlier and stay longer. Make sure you get a ScanGaugeII to monitor the Intake Air temp and also the water temp if you use the radiator block.

The only modifications I have are the warm-air mod and 55psi in the OEM tires. I'm averaging 90+mpg with my best 20 mile commute at 122.2mpg and covered 1,010 miles on my last tank of gas. Without the warm-air modificaiton I suspect my numbers would be in the high 70s to low 80s.
