Has anyone tried to fit an S2000 steering wheel to their car out of interest?

The one in the insight looks quite nice but is horible and plasticy to hold. I was wondering if an S2000 one would be a straight swap?!

Ok Ive found an S2000 wheel with a deployed airbag. I can have it cheap too.

Will my airbag unit fit this wheel?

Ive searched on here a fair bit and while Ive found lots of discussion I cant find anyone who actually has done it!!

Will do. Ive just been told that you actually only replace the rim. You retain the boss and airbag assembly.

I'll take some pics when doing the swap I think and put them on here for others to see.

Hopefully it will turn up within the next couple of days. I actually just bought a Type R gearknob for it at the same time to brighten up the interior!! Its the simple things that please!!!

Quick update.

My wheel arived this morning however my manual still has not. So I googled how to remove an S2000 wheel and found this; http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fifth-s2kwheel/index.shtml

Its a rather good write up on a civic forum on how to do it. The principles are exactly the same in the insight. I just disconnected the 12V battery first before starting and didnt isolate anything else.

I must say its a fantastic improvement over stock. I know Honda have gone through great lengths to keep the cars weight to a minimum however the standard wheel never felt very nice in the hand. The S2000 one while being almost double the weight feels wonderfull and fits perfectly. For the sake of £50 I think it is definately worth doing.

Hey! Your new wheel's on the wrong side! You need to get your money back!

:D

But seriously, now... that's a sharp improvement [jealousy], now I'm tempted...

It would be oriented differently. Nice try, but no. I've been waiting, however, for some of our more talented members with plastic-forming experience or capabilities to come up with something like that for many, many years now... ;)

So the problem is the orientation? Meaning that it will fit but the unit will be angled to the right away from the driver? Not sure if I'm understanding this correctly. If it does fit our NA cars than I'd give it a try. Was this double din opening standard abroad?

Nice job on the steering wheel! Can't believe you managed to change the lcd unit in your dashboard as well, you obviously must have some mechanical skills. (I'm hopeless).

To answer Corey's question about the central section of dashboards:

Japanese Insights were right hand drive and most of them had a double DIN sat nav /stereo unit (which only worked in Japan).

UK Insights were also in the correct right hand drive :) , but had a single DIN stereo with a closable cubby-hole below (see photo above). These could be converted to double DIN stereos etc if required. For the record, the photo above also shows the UK only rear fog light switch and height adjustable headlight switch to the right of the steering wheel.

American (& German?) Insights were obviously built to be left hand drive with a slightly different central moulding with only the space for a single DIN stereo. This may have been to allow for 'jumbo' sized drinks in the holder below... ;) As boogetyboogety suggested it would only need someone in the USA to manufacture a double DIN mould.
