Like many I've not been impressed with the stock Honda horn on my 2000 Insight. It sounds cute, but doesn't cut it when driving in the right lane with all the big trucks and yahoos on the Southern California freeways.
This weekend I installed a Stebel Compact Twin Nautilus air horn I purchased on eBay for about $40. I mounted it on the backside of the front core support just to the left (driver's side) of the radiator. Although the unit combines a small compressor with two air horns it doesn't take up much space (4" X 3" X 2 1/2"). There is already a predrilled and threaded hole at that spot on the core support to hold a mounting bracket. From this location the sound easily escapes the underhood confines of the Insight and it's not in the way when it's time to work on the car.
I made up a bracket from some angle aluminum and mounted the horn. I then ran a power wire to the underhood fuse box and connected into the factory horn relay as others have done on this board. A short ground wire runs from the horn to the mounting bracket. I also replaced the 10 amp mini fuse in the horn circuit with a 30 amp unit to allow for the extra current draw. The factory horn is still connected as well.
It sounds teriffic, like a high powered Ferrari! I'm confident my horn won't be ignored when I need to use it now.
If you'd like to hear it go to this link:
