I bought the Harbor Freight dual air horn for $9.95. I placed the horns, compressor and the relay all along the aluminum braca that runs side to side just in front of the windshield. The horns point downward. I ran a wire from the black/blue wire, that goes down beside the radiator on the right side to the original horn, to the relay on the right side of the brace. I left the original horn connected, so both are firing up. The 12V lead comes from the fuse box large lug. Of course the bar is the ground. I had to get a longer bolt than was supplied with the kit so that it would go all the way through the bar for the mounting of the compressor. In the case of the horns and the relay, since they are light weight, I just drilled and tapped the holes for them. I will post a picture on my Picasa page.

I have a "new" (1952) 80/40 meter AM rig that will run on 160VDC that I am considering adding to the car to run off the IMA battery, using the 12v bat for filaments and a Gonset converter into the AM radio for a receiver. It will be a minimalist rig capable of about 20 watts output. The antenna will be bigger than the rig.

thats going to be an interesting setup. i have a ten-tec 555 argo in my jeep that i should put in the insight. i would have to build a new center console to house it, along with the antenna tuner and digital noise reduction. 5 watts and i have worked almost 50 countries!

Awesome solution Jim! Just as a note for the thrifty, I checked at my local Harbor Freight store and the horns were 19.95. I hit the online store and they were 9.95 as Jim paid. Shipping was 6.99 and they didn't charge sales tax - a savings of 4.62. I just ordered mine! I would like to have a separate button that would honk the little horn if I need a polite honk and have the air horns on the normal steering wheel button. Any ideas?
PS - I drive a Kenworth dump truck with a 4 axle pup for a living and can't wait to pull into work in my Insight, sneak up behind one of my co-workers in my little car and let loose a blast - it should sound very much like my truck!
Thanks again for the tip Jim!

If you can get ahold of the flyer that has the $9.98 price in it, you can take the flyer to the store and they will honor that price....without the shipping costs!!! Thats what I did.

Hi Jim,
I just did the same thing you did but I can not find the original horn. I was looking on the right (looking from inside the car) side of the radiator and can not find it. Any hints?
Thanks,
Thomas, WA
