Hi, I have an iPod (who doesn't) and I want to play it on the car stereo using an FM converter. I bought a cheap $25 one and it doesn't work very well. Not acceptable! Can anyone recommend a place to buy one with decent transmitting power, easy to tune, and works well in the Insight?
the tape ones generally work a lot better. I bought a 20 dollar one at radioshack a year ago, and if you connect and disconnect it everyday, the contact ring on the jack will wear after only a few months. Each time i return it to radioshack and they give me a new one free of charge.

I have never had any luck with the adapters/transmitters. And since the stereo is so easy to remove, I will be doing it right and will be using one of these:
I plan on running the iPod cord underneath and to the rear of the console. Good options for storing the iPod are there: passanger seat-back pocket, net pocket in center between seat-backs, or the small tray by the e-brake handle. (I am also planning an armrest install, which will be the best place for the iPod.)
This will continue to keep the 12V outlet be available for my cell and Nav system charger cords.

I don't have an iPod so I've never tested, but the JVC KD-BT1 stereo I've had in the Insight for several years supports direct iPod connectivity via USB. While the KD-BT1 isn't really available anymore, I have to believe that every manufacturer makes a deck that can control an iPod. More useful for me is the feature that allows direct MP3 playback from a USB mass storage device so I didn't have to waste money on an iPod and deal with the garbage that is iTunes. It won't play protected music from the USB port unless it's on an iPod due to Apple's refusal to license their "Fairplay" DRM to other manufactures.
I bought a P.I.E. cd changer adapter for the stock honda unit and reached around the glovebox without taking the stereo out and simply plugged it into the back of the unit. I installed the ipod in the "sunglasses" tray left of the steering wheel by cutting a little notch out to allow the end of the ipod cord to pass through. Works great and the ipod is always hidden until you open the tray.
As far as I am concerned you have three good options:
- Many decks have iPod adapters you can purchase to wire into the back. That's been addressed already so I won't go into the detail.
- Most major manufacturers now have front Aux jacks in the form of a 3.5mm (headphone jack) that work with a male to male headphone cable. This will provide crisp sound with no interference.
- I just purchased a Sony CDX-GT730UI which has a front USB jack. The great benefit of this is that you can control the iPod from your stereo! You don't even need to use an iPod. I use a memory stick with my music on it. I know other manufacturers are beginning to make them. I think the cheapest model that Sony makes with a front USB can be found on eBay for less than $100
This thread is the one that describes the best way to hook up an Ipod to the stock OEM 04-06 radio/CD player. No FM hookup. It uses the input for the cd changer. I used the same thing.
