Default Soundproofing Project

This summer I am going to be doing about 8,000mi in road trips and so I'm trying to prep my baby for the ride. The next thing that has to go is the ridiculous road noise!

Help Needed: If anyone wants to lend me a dBA meter I'll be glad to take measurements to give a more precise result than just "it seems quieter"

Here are my goals:
- Under $100
- Under 50lbs. weight
- reduced road noise (by 3-7dBA if possible)
- eliminate rattles

I've chosen & purchased my materials:
- Ensolite (Closed Cell Neoprene/Butyl/Rubber Mixture) @ 1/2" and 1/4" thickness
- Polyfil (aka Teddy Bear stuffing)
- Great Stuff (Expanding foam Spray)
- Butyl/Asphalt Flashing Cement for the wheel wells

I will post my write-up in stages with pictures but first I'd like to get my hands on a meter so hopefully someone has one I can borrow.

Ok so no one wants to loan me their dBA meter... that's cool. I guess I won't have specific numbers, but I'll still post my writeup with pics... just no definititive numbers to back up the results.

Good luck on your project! Mad props to you for taking it on.

Perhaps you're not getting a loan on a decibel meter because... maybe no one has one?

Or... They're sooo cheap you can get one of your very own on eBay for ~$20?

Decibel DB 7 Range Sound Level Audio Noise Meter Q22 - eBay (item 320351000148 end time Mar-20-09 17:33:00 PDT)

If I were you, I'd just buy myself one and consider it a modest part of the total cost of the project...

Did you ever get around to this soundproofing project you first wrote about in 2009?
