Default Black housing headlights

I had a few hours of free time so I decided to paint my headlight housing black. I haven't seen it done on the Insight yet, but I thought it would look good. So 4 hours later and a can of spray paint later....

Before:

After:

What does everyone think? So far I'm liking it, it how ever did manage to blow one of my headlight bulbs.

Hard to tell with it being dark and using a flash as I think you are getting a higher contrast. Looks a good idea to me though.

Did you put them in the oven to soften the sealant? What temp?

Did you see anyway you could take out the orange indicator filter?

Thanks

Could you post a picture of the whole front of the car in day time without flash. I actually thought about doing this some time ago, but was scared of opening up the lights and dealing with the whole over thing.

The K-Sight had blacked out headlights too like this, but the orange indicator area loooks different from yours...

its hard to get a good picture w/ the sun/flash glare and also my headlights to begin with were already cloudy.

reason why mine looks different then k-sights is they must of masked off the reflective chrome area where the orange is at, I on the other hand plainted it black.

Looks smart!

Yes i was talking about the orange bits, they filter the light to only let orange through afterall.

Looks great, you did a great job... I'm not really feeling the look for me (since my silver would look... I don't know, raccoony... ), but... it is a different Insight mod... I bet you get a lot of double-takes from Insighters! (few though they may be)...

I really want to try that. Do you think this mod is reversible. Could you take off the paint if you decide you dont like it? I assume it would be very hard since its chrome before. Did you use any special high heat paint or something?

ps. I think that volvo truck in the background of your picture also has blacked out headlights...
