Default 12V supplemental charging advice

Putting a Braille 106 12V drycell battery (only 6 lbs. vs. the 23 or so of the stock 12V) in to replace the original 12V (OEM) battery which is showing signs of age. Any advice on supplemental charging needed on this type of 12V battery? I've seen a bit on the forum about the advice to do a once a month charge on the Odyssey and Hawker AGM batteries. This unit is a dry cell so could be same or very different. Appreciate any thoughts on this matter.

from what i've seen the braille batteries are just as same as the odssey batteries AGM. im highly considering the Braille 106 mbattery over the Odyssey 545 because its about half the weight and only 1amp/hr less capacity.

oops need to correct myself.

the braille B106 has 3amp/hr less than the Odyssey PC545 and 6lb lighter. The braille B129 is 1amp/hr less and 3.1 lb lighter than the Pdyssey PC545.

So far, so good. I've had the Braille 106 in my Insight for about a month now. Put 2,500 miles on it. My Scangauge II reads out the float charge voltage and I haven't noticed any strange charging behavior thus far. Of course, it's summer temps and mostly full main battery pack. We'll see what happens when winter arrives and a depleted main pack makes sub-zero starting demands on the little 12v.

have you ever left either the stereo or the lights on for a period of time to see how long it lasts?

i forgot to turn off the brake light today from the forced regen mod and it drained the batteries to about 8 volts in 6 hours with the stock battery.

Why wouldn't you use a momentary switch for the regen mod?

Better yet and safer, Why not slightly adjust the standard switch so that the lightest touch of the brake pedal activates the regen without using the friction brakes? That way, people behind you really know when you are applying the brakes (to some extent) and they will never be left accidentally on. Then perhaps people behind you will not be concerned when they see your brake lights on even when going up hill.

If they are on constantly (forgot to turn off the switch), and you had to hit the brakes hard to come to a sudden stop, the driver behind you may not be able to react properly since they would not see any visual difference in your lights. If there was an accident, the other driver could make a case that you are partially (if not totally) responsible since you modified a safety feature that normally warns other vehicles of your intent to slow down or stop.

at times below 25mph the engine goes into auto stop. there is a stretch of road where there the speed varies from 25-5mph because of traffic. i can trick the car and have it auto stop without installing the FAS. a poor mans FAS.

i usually look far ahead so that i wont have to abruptly slam on the brakes. usually the IMA braking is enough until 20mph or so.

I just hope your poor mans FAS does not make you any poorer if a serious accident occurs due to your modification. Many of us here do mods to their Insight and I am a big fan of many of these mods but your mod in its current state could lead to injury of an innocent person driving behind you.

if there was someone behind me and i accidently left the brake light ON he or she should be smart and not tailgate incase i slam on the brakes. which will not happen since im smart enough to look ahead and drive wisely. its just common sense to back off when a brake light is turn on. its like the red light theory, when you see a red traffic light you come to a stop in a safe manner not speed to the red and then slam on the brakes.

No, my mod does not have the capacity to create or cause any sort of harm or accident to any person or persons driving behind me or near me.

anyways back to the original question... eh nevermind.

Joe you can have the last word.
