Default GPS Mirror

I"m thinking of getting a GPS rearview mirror that mounts in place of the existing mirror. What type of mount should I get. Is the Insight mount the same as the ones on all Hondas? I remember reading that the Insight uses a unique glass mount.

Thanks!

Default GPS mirror

How big is the GPS screen? How well will you see it from your driving position? Is it touchscreen?

I have a Garmin 4.3 inch that I mount in the upper left corner of the windshield to keep it as close to me as possible so it is easy to see. From your pic, I would imagine seeing the map at that distance may be quite difficult. (?) Cool idea, just not sure if it will work out well.

LOL My car looks great in skirts! Can't say as I ever tried it myself!

I love my GPS (for which I machined a custom vent side mounting bracket). Wish it was a little bigger...the screen of course. Aside from concerns about mounting extra weight on a glued on mirror mount I'd wonder about the effect of having a GPS screen competing with my rearward visibility at night. Then there is the power cord that would have to be run around the windshield somehow. Remember too that the GPS is only as good as the sensitivity of its antenna and the detail and accuracy of its maps. It would be a shame to go through fishing the power cable only to find sub optimal perfomance. My little Mio isn't fancy but its Canadian maps and single lane route accuracy beat the Magellan I tried any day. Proceed with care so as not to get burned.

as for quality, i have no idea, but ive been looking at these and other gadget mirrors as well, for both the insight and my road endurance racer project (think bull run, but events less popular/known) butr here are a few thoughts;

I dont imagine those units would be too heavy, i dont think they have a large battery like portable units, and i would think thats where the weight comes in.

for mounting, just check the "button" on the glass, i took a quick look and it appears to be the standard "universal" size. mounting buttons can be replaced or changed as well, but they need to be sprayed in acetone or similar to eat through the adhesive, and that can be a pain.

power could be tapped from the dome/map lights in the overhead, there should be a 12v ign on or constant 12v source wire there for the button activated lights.

i have ideas on making my own lcd integrated mirror, no details yet, but i think i can build one...

Decided to go with this, a 1 DIN 3.5" TFT Touch-Screen DVD MP3 AM/FM/SD-USB Receiver GPS. Got it on ebay for $218 shipped. It comes with iGo maps which I like. We'll see how good it is when I install it. For the price, I'm not expecting too much
