Default 1.2L TDI Honda Insight Build Completed

Just completed a 1.2L TDI heart transplant on a 2000 Insight on Friday (17JUL09). As I suspected, the Honda Insight with a diesel engine is a MUCH better and more satisfying car to drive. Hills are no longer a dread like they once were. Take a look at Red Light Racing for build details. I hope to have the most recent photos of the build posted shortly. In the meantime, here's a YouTube video of the car at idle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgELfyYsxyM.

Best wishes,
Jake

Default Very Interesting

A difficult project well done.

I had a look at the website but I could not find any pics of the ima motor fitted on your engine?

Have you managed to fully integrate it all?

What issues have you encountered?

I'm sure others will be along with other questions.

It looks like they are going to add a MIMIA.

Please keep the updates coming .... I love the Insight, but I'm first and foremost a VW nut and Diesel Geek. You're building my dream car.

Looking at the stack-up of the adapter plate, the IMA may have "gone away"

Likewise! Great job on a very interesting and complicated modification of the Insight. Can't wait to hear about what kind of MPG numbers you pull down. Since diesel fuel has more BTU's than gasoline, I'd figure an easy 100 mpg even without MIMA joining the party.

Are you running biofuel diesel or the fossil#2?

How much weight difference between the 2 powertrains?

Interesting project...

Job well done! I would also like to know some of the numbers previously asked by other members. I have done a few engine swaps in my day and know it is not an easy challenge ... especially when you have different manufactures and fuel types. It is always the smaller items which take the most time to sort out. I am impressed!!! Now, GET IT ON THE ROAD!!!

I can't wait to see the videos showing how the Insight drives with a diesel powerplant and to see what the real world MPG results will come out to be.

Great project, hope the IMA part goes well, and feel free to call if you think I can help.

Awesome.

I was only doing a bit of googling about the A2 and the 1.2 Tdi version last night.

This marries the two very nicely.

Any chance of conversion kits later down the line?
