Default Powering my Power antenna?

I have an aftermarket radio and it sounds like crap! Someone had told me they thought my 2001 insight had a powered antenna and that i may not have the wire run to power the antenna? Does anyone know if this is true, and if it is, what do i do to wire up the powered antenna?

Funny, I have the same problem and had thought the same thing. I have a high end head unit and it's reception is horrible. Even the closest stations go in and out of HD continusly. I searched the forums and came up with nothing.

Anyone out there have a solution?

Check the antenna connection.

Q: Why, after upgrading to a new stereo, am I not receiving any AM stations?

A: The Insight has a small amplifier in the base of the antenna for AM signals. If you aren't receiving AM stations after upgrading to a new stereo system, it is probably due to power not being supplied to this radio frequency amplifier.
Most head units supply power out on a blue lead when the tuner is activated for power (raise/lower) antennas. This will work for powering the AM antenna amp. Connect it to the blue wire on the wire harness adapter that goes to pin 1 of the audio unit connector.

True, but it refers to AM whereas my problem, and most likely chronicsmoke's, is FM. My connection has been checked and rechecked

Thumbs down

I've owned two Insights both with OEM radios. I have NEVER had a good AM signal with either of them.

There is something wrong with the Insight antenna design and I'm still trying to get AM reception. FM works better but not great. The radios in every other car I have owned including 5 other Hondas have been perfect
