Question Clutch switch wires?

Did I tap into the wrong wires? I tapped into the clutch switch to disable assist. Am I suppose to tap into those very thin Red and Black wires or the ones right above the clutch pedal? I tapped into the wires right above the pedal, but it didn't work.

Thanks, they look very thin, the thinnest wires I have are 18 gauge. I don't think I have taps that small.

I used the red 18-22g taps and they worked perfect, even connected to 16g as I was under the impression that they had to carry current. Ummm, no.

Oh, one more question, does it matter which wires go to the switch + or -? Thanks

You need to tap both and simply run them to a switch; close to disable. I used a switch that I ordered from Grainger. It's a chrome toggle that is on in the up position, off in the center, and momentary on in the down position. The toggle is mounted next to the emergency brake (where I rest my right hand) so I can press down on the toggle with my thumb to regen and up to disable. It works perfect!

In order not to damage the clutch switch wires I just poked the wires into the clutch switch where those wires go in. Makes contact just fine. You can tin the stripped end and bend it over to make a tight fit. Then I just used a on/off switch from Radio Shack. Drilled a hole in one of the dash blanks and mounted it.
Used a momentary switch with two wires to the brake switch the same way mounted in another of the blanks. When I want to slow down with max regen I just hold that switch.

If this helps, I used phone cord extension wire to connect from the clutch pedal wires to down by the shifter.

Yes, the clutch wires are very high up as FYR mentioned, and I had quite the time soldering the phone cord wire to the clutch wires. Satchel's idea of connecting at the connector sounds much better!

The IMA disable switch is mounted to the shifter via a nice fiberglass housing, and makes it really easy to shift and flip the switch when needed.

Jim.

Crap! I soldered the brake wires and that was hell. I haven't done a whole lot of soldering in my life, so add that to cramped quarters, and soldering upsidedown... and alone so I couldn't just hand off the iron or ask for flux or what not. You're serious 3-wheeler!

LOL!! I have a nice pair of blue-jeans with a 1 inch diameter burn spot next to one of the front pockets because my soldering iron decided to move slightly when I was flat on my back and tending to the wires...

Thanks for a good laugh!!

Jim.
