Default Horn replacement

Anyone out there replace their horn? I bought a new one (for an Accord) and it looks like in order replace it I'll need to remove the bumper. I'm hoping this is not necessary. Any thoughts/experience here guys?

Thanks,
Steve

I was able to install my horn after installing the bumper, but before the lower splash shields. It's very hard to reach, though.

Thumbs up

I figured out which wire goes to the original horn. The wire is color coded (use the shop manual to see the colors). The horn wire parallels the radiator. I striped the wire and spliced in (twisted, soldered and covered in shrink casing) an additional Honda Pilot horn. So now, both horns sound at the same time. It is plenty loud. When the horn is used on the freeway and anyone drifts into your lane, they immediately correct their direction and the collision is avoided.

I mounted the new horn right in front of the radiator between the hood and front bumper and screwed to the upper radiator mount. When the horn is used, the full volume is facing forward.

I didn't have to modify the horn relay or take off the bumper to remove the old horn. It may not be the best way to install a new wire to the new horn, but I use my horn everyday at least a few times(SF Bay Area traffic commands a loud horn).

My installation is over 200,000 miles in use now without failure

P.S. I also installed the same set-up in my wife's 2001 Insight CVT.

I put a Fiamm Freeway blaster on last week. I've not gotten to test it out much since the car's in the shop for awhile now, but when I tested it the horn was notably louder, though not as much as I'd like. I think I'll try connected the relay once I get the car back.

I am also happy with the Hella Supertone horns on my Civic.

I like them but I'm curious how quik they respond and how well they'll hold up.

Hellas, depending on the model, are very good though a decent air horn will still be louder. My only ?? is whether or not the compressor will be a big drain on the barely capable 12 volt battery in the car.

i highly doubt it considering people put stereo systems in the car.
