The CARD(Calpod) switch shuts off assist/regen and is a simple $2 switch and two wires to the clutch switch. I often flip it off to accelerate then flip it back on to catch regen when driving and stopping. I believe MIMA will do what you want for around $1000.

Is it as easy to turn of assist/regen on a CVT or is it more complicated without the clutch switch?

Try this link:
Brake and clutch switch mod walkthru.

Peter did a great job with this walkthrough. I used and love his location for the switch. Being right next to the steering wheel, mine gets a lot of use. I made one change to his design though. In his install, Peter used a large toggle. I used a small one and bent a piece of alluminum tubing until it 'felt' right. Covered with a piece of black heat shrink it looks like a stock design . Been using it for 1 1/2 years with no problem.

Of course, this all assumes that you have the MT Insight. If CVT, it won't be much help.

Then you should know that this is only a Band-Aid substute for a "surgical" proceedure. Yes it can buy you some more time. But the proverbial snowball is already rolling down hill, nearing the bottom, approaching full speed....SPLAT.

This is where my switches are but I think the push button regen installed down on the gear shift housing is an elegant solution since your hand naturally rests down there. The push button is only $3 at Radio Shack. I have no problem reaching my switches though, and their use has become natural. You might see I didn't get a very clean hole in the plastic on the left, if your bit grabs the plastic breaks easily. edit: and I had it in a vise and was trying to be careful. I've got some more blanks so will redo it one of these days. The regen is on the left and Calpod on the right and it's not far to the brake/clutch switches from here.
I want to reiterate that I just stuck the wires in the switches where the other wires go in them, no soldering, no quick connects, so everything can go back just like it was. Last time I had it in to Honda I just poked the switches behind two good blanks and you couldn't tell I'd done anything(unless you were to look up above the clutch/brake and see my wires in the switches).

Hi Trekker,

I just want to clarify that those already using or planning on using the Calpod IMA disable, do so for more than limping by with a unbalanced battery pack.

My pack *is* balanced using a trickle charger and the disable switch comes in very handy when I don't want to drain the battery when going up long and steep hills, for example.

There are other times when I use the switch to minimize background charging when running along on flat roads, and the battery is above 75% SOC or so. I net about 3 mpg doing this, so it's a win-win for everyone in involved.

In encourage those who want to try the disable switch to give it a go!!

Jim.
