But at $40 each (on ebay) I am not sure I really need it. But if you had an outside speaker that could be switched to the radio, it might be cool for a while till the novelty wore off.
It also comes as a V10!!!

This is a pretty funny novelty item. The only issue that I have with this sort of thing comes with my experience with passengers in the car. If a passenger hears your car loud at high revs but isn't feeling strong seat of the pants acceleration, it only makes the car seem weaker.
I used to drive a car with a V6 that had a fair bit of power but I'd make sure that if I had passengers to let off the gas a little at 4k RPM otherwise it would just sound noisier than its acceleration felt even though it was more powerful at higher engine speeds.
I think this is why there are so many complaints from people watching Youtube videos of the acceleration and groups like Consumer Reports with the I2 when they make their videos, the louder sound makes them expect more than what they are getting.
I've come down to prefering as close to silence as I can get with my cars now that I prefer fuel economy and have read about and seen plenty of videos with electric cars.
This isnt for the passenger, its for the idiot behind me that thinks I am slow just because he cant hear my motor. I can usually out accelerate him, but if he cant hear it and can see the Hybrid label on the back, it just infuriates him.

Driving the other day from the city to my country home I had a big dually pick-up truck tailgating me like he wanted to pass me. We split up going through a town and I wound up a couple of cars behind him. He was now able to drive as fast as he wanted and actually went a little slower than I was going earlier.
I wanted to do something similar but with the sound of a harley. That is pretty clever to pick up the rpm signals from the lighter voltage.
The exhaust on my Insight is pretty loud as I have removed the last resonator.

Unfortunately, your experience is a daily occurance with my Insight in the SF Bay Area. Some thick headed idiot does this to me daily. Those macho gas gusslers really hate hybrids.
That thing probably will not work correctly in hybrids.....
Doubt that it will be able to "sense" engine RPM via the DC-DC converter.
