Funny? I think it's inspired. I remember a story a looong while back, perhaps apocryphal although it wasn't told to me, I remember reading it somewhere, of the Alaska building contractor who shipped an antique fireplace from the lower 48 to his home in some small village via the U.S.P.S., brick by brick, simply because it was waaay cheaper than having it shipped via commercial carrier.

If you can get around the skittishness of the U.S.P.S. counterperson when you tell him you're shipping batteries, well, "if it fits..."

USPS doesn't like to ship LITHIUM batteries. If you tell them they are just like regular rechargable AA batteries, they won't care. At least in my experience. In fact a few weeks ago I shipped 8 D cell NiMH batteries and a large charger via USPS.
