Default Vertical glass in back and rear view camera

I have just installed a rear view camera in the little cove on the hatch at the back but the tinted glass is tearing up the color

Does anyone know if the tint is a surface treatment, or is it in the glass? I want to clear a small window if it is a surface coating.

Default rear hatch

I don't know for sure (at all actually), but I thought the rear lower tinted portion of the hatch was plastic. I never really thought about it, but just figured it wasn't glass.

I just ordered a wireless backup camera for my 2010 Insight w/Nav.

Jim,

Can you explain in detail how you installed the camera in the back? Did you splice into the reverse lamp circuit? If so, is it easy to find where to splice? I assume I need to tie into one of the rear facing signal lamp covers?

How did you run the wire to the lamp circuit?

Wouldn't this cause a problem when you lift the hatchback (I assume you installed yours in the flat, rear-facing window in the hatch back without drilling any holes?). How did you keep from making the wire visible when you lift the hatch?

A picture's worth a thousand words, as they say..

Thanks for any help

Around the hatch, across the hinge area, over the right rear window, down behind the passenger seat, into the console where my 7" monitor is located..

Might if I did it that way, I didnt.

Its mounted with velcro on the little shelf behind the window. The tint is just a film which I removed in the area where it points through.

I wrote a long explanation of why I am not happy with it and the damned computer ate it. I hate the laptop because for no reason at all it will suddenly destroy what ever I am working on.

So heres the short version. NO, I am not happy with it. I bought a cheap camera ($11) on Ebay. Now I will get a better camera ($25) and it will be fine. At least the wiring in in so it will only take a 15 minute install to swap it out.
