It was 'higher than 169v', was this while you were charging still or after you disconnected the charger? If the car doesn't see 168 and if it was 169 while charging it will drop below that when you unplug it. There could also be a discrepancy with your voltmeter and the cars voltage its reading too.

This has never caused a CEL for me. However, Peter's new gauge shows it causes a battery current sensor miscalibration, in that the car will zero the sensor while +0.35A are flowing through it.

I've never been able to get the key on recal like uhtrinity has, but I've only tried a couple times, and it was probably too hot for me to reach the required voltage.

Perhaps only the earlier Insight's can do that, because of something programmed in the computer. I am assuming yours is a 2000. Mine is an 2002.

So i was wondering, does the grid charger have to be disconnected before turning the key to "on", or does it have to be connected and on for the SOC to recal? I never thought of that, but it could vary based on BCM revisions. Mine is original as the battery had never been replaced. I do have a newer BCM here, maybe I'll try it and see if I lose the capability.

Also, were you measuring straight from the battery, or from the power going in from the charger? Subtract about 1.5v if from the charger. I measured both points last night and confirmed a 1.5v lower voltage at the battery.

I've also never gotten it, but I'm hoping for that to be one of the good things that will come out of the colder months!

I tend to unplug my car before it gets hot in the morning, then drive around the block to get a recal. It's wasteful, but I like having the battery gauge full. If I wait until later in the day when it gets hot, it will take MUCH LONGER to do a recal. I can usually get it to do this within about .3 of a mile, IIRC.

I was able to get a recal very quickly today. It was around 65* F outside, voltage coming out of charger was around 174v. I tried to just leave the key on for couple of minutes and wait for a recall, but it didnt happen. But as soon as I started the car, the SOC guage started rising quickly and was full within a minute. Got full without having to drive around or any 3 bars of charge. I didnt pull the fuse to reset the SOC either. It was probably the colder weather that caused this quick recall.
