Don't bother with the dealer's offer. An independent mechanic will beat that price, and can use junkyard parts.

A transmission specialist will also beat the dealer's price, and most offer free diagnosis / estimates.

There's nothing too fancy about the Insight's tranny. You just need to be careful around the IMA rotor.

It is a 2002 CVT..... I have decided to bring it home and attempt to fix it myself. Does anyone know any good manuals or websites that I can get or look at to help me change out the tranny and the radiator and condenser. Listen folks, I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL YOUR INPUT ON THIS. I am just a poor boy trying to survive. Thanks ya all, Bill in Texas.....

all service manuals are here for download:
Download 2000-2006 Insight Service Manual PDF and Others

but, the CVT's are much more complicated to work with than a Manual Trans.

I can't get that to download for me. Is there a cost to this download?

When you click on the link, there will be an option to download for free (FileFactory Basic). Or try the links provided by retepsnikrep on page 4 of that thread.

Getting the tranny in/out is not difficult at all, the question for you is what is wrong with it - can it be repaired or just replaced? The dealer is not your friend at this point. Get a Factory service manual if you are so inclined and have the tools/place to work on it. You will likely find that buying a used tranny will be the way to go here

Good luck,

Steve
