Need help with double DIN and car PC issues.

I picked up an Insight a few weeks ago and I'm wanting to modernize it a little by adding a car PC to it. Adding a car PC to my Prius was pretty simple since it had some room to add a touchscreen. The Insight only has a single DIN space and I cant use a flip up screen in that space and I cant find a flip down screen anywhere.

So here is where I need your help. I need help finding the right parts to get this to work the way I want. I'm used to all the comforts the Prius provides as well as my additions and I want to replicate them in the Insight as best as possible.

What I want/need.....

A single DIN radio / integrated bluetooth / reverse camera option/ VGA touchscreen that will flip down and still have audio controls accessible and or remote that can be attached to the steering wheel to control the audio. Something that would work with Car2PC would be nice.

Or

I would like to know of a place that I could import the double DIN trim piece from Japan that way I could try to modify it to fit in my car.

Can anyone help me here? I know I might be better off asking about the touch screen over at mp3car.com but I wanted to ask here sine you guys know more about the Insight then the other forum would. Plus I would like a double DIN option over the single DIN.

I've seen on here where one was modified to be a double DIN and it looks really good but where I live there is no one that I know of for a 100 miles that could do custom work like that.

Worst case I have an old Liliput flip up screen that broke but would work if I turned it up side down. They thing that broke on it is the gear that flips up the screen. I would have to permanently mount it with the screen out all the time. Or I could just buy a flip up screen and install it upside down. Only down side is that I would have to make sure the PC could flip the screen and if I had a reverse camera to also flip its image.

They do have a few that flip down...

I was tempted to get one myself but then I remembered I just installed a stereo in that spot.

Thanks for the link but that is not a VGA touch screen for a computer or if it is the resolution is way to low.

I'll keep everyone updated here on the progress. I have many more modifications I'll try to document here too.

I have an OEM double DIN trim piece on order from Japan and it should be here in a few weeks. I also ordered the radio brackets to see if I can use them instead of making my own.

Just for the heck of it while I was importing stuff from Japan I also ordered the two buttons that go in the dash blanks. I figure I might be able to use them for something.


If I can get the double DIN piece to work this will be perfect since there are lots of choices for double DIN VGA screen combo units. My fingers are crossed.

I'm getting them from the same place that I get all of my imported Prius mods from. Sigma Automotive – Accessories that make your car go cleaner, meaner & greener

I contacted Edward who runs the place and he said that he could also get Honda parts. All I had to do was provide the part numbers. Well I found the part numbers and he ordered them for me.

If anyone is interested in ordering these let me know and I will ask Edward if he would like to order some more double DIN kits.

Anyone reading this might want to wait until I receive mine and see if everything can be modified to fit. That way you wont waste your time and money.

I may not be installing a PC anytime soon but I plan on trying to fit the double DIN ASAP.
