Default Thinking of installing a new CD unit...by myself...

The current unit that came with my car is a Pioneer, and while it works, the CD eject doesn't quite fully eject a disc. You have to remove the faceplate to manually take it out. I wouldn't mind using it, but I figured I'd buy a system that had an auxillary jack or a USB port for mp3 devices.

Since the car came with an aftermarket sustem, does this mean all the wiring and connectors are there for a new unit? My impression is that I just unplug a few things from the old unit and plug them into the new one. Is it this simple? Would I need a new faceplate also? Looks like mine is actually the original one when the Honda factory unit was in there.

I've read some write-ups on CD unit installation, and I think I can do the steps up to actually installing the unit. My concern is the wiring part. If it's in place already, then I think I can do it. But if I need to get new wiring connectors, then I may just pay someone to do it.

This will be my first sound system install.

I depends on how the current unit was installed, and weather they did it properly or just threw things together. Or if your new head unit is also a Pioneer then you might be able to just unplug the old one and plug in the new one.

But if it is a different brand then generally you buy an adapter plug for the Honda wiring harness to wire the new head units plug to. That way you save the cars wiring harness.

I replaced the unit in my girlfriends car a month or two ago and it was done the quick and dirty way... I ended up going to a junk yard and getting the original plug to fix things in case we ever have to replace the new head unit I just put in.
