Aren't HID and LED two different technologies? The first link looks like it is for LED bulbs designed to replace HID bulbs in an enclosure designed for HID's????
I see new Audis with what look like multiple LED lights, so perhaps LED's give adequate light if you use a number of them???
I am trying to find a source that can give a proper light output rating or test between the two, but have not had any luck so far. Please post back if anyone finds info! I will.
Lumens (lm) are the unit of luminosity, which is a measure of how much light exits the lamp. lm/W = luminous efficacy, or how efficiently light is produced. If an LED lamp does not include a lm and a W rating, don't buy it. It's as simple as that.
and remind you that you need about 1000lm for an automotive lighting application (and that 1000lm must be pointed in the right direction. DOT approval would be a good sign that it is), so you'd need about 20W of LED or 10W of high-pressure sodium to accomplish that. Though I don't think HID scales down that well.
