Default 3M Paint Protection Film...install done!

I installed the Insights PPF this weekend. I like the look, or actually the lack of look from the PPF. Most people never know its there until they get real close and I point it out. I have put this on several of my own vehicles ( including motorcycles ) and it holds up for many years and doesnt yellow. I did PPF installs professionally for a few years. If you havent done this before and want to, Id recommend getting a few quotes to have it professionally installed first. $400-$500 would be what I would charge, if I still did this kind of work, and the quote should include all materials.

I spent 7.5 hours installing the hood, headlights, mirrors, sills, bumper and fender fronts. Im a little out of practice, and I got "hung up" in a few areas and was able to recover and make it look great. Chances are, if you have never done this before and got "hung up" you would not be able to salvage the material and could waste $100-200 worth of material in about 1 minute.

The right installer can make PPF look just like the paint. A bad installer will blame the material and 3M.

I tried to get some pics, but you cant really see the material on silver paint.

(I bought the precut kit on Ebay, from steve@chipguard.com)

I had PPF put on mine when it was just a month or two old. It's been on there for about 4 years now and I'm perfectly happy with it. In a couple of places the PPF is scuffed by stone hits that definitely would have damaged the paint if it had not been there.

I just pickup my Insight two weeks ago. The hood and fenders were very good shape, but the front bumper has alot of scars. I touched up the worst points and installed the PPF to prevent future damage. PPF requires a lot of strrreeetcccchhhhiiinnnggg to get it on right and aftermarket paint jobs can actually pull right off the car if the paint job wasnt prepped correctly. So Ill take the slightly beat up look of the OEM bumper verses getting it repainted and chancing pulling the paint off...ask my how I know.

LOL...did it to a Porsche and the person signed a waiver before I started warning them if it had been repainted, there was no guarantee the PPF wouldnt pull the paint right off. Thats exactly what happend...cleaned the paint right off the hood, down to the metal.

3M is TOUGH stuff.
