Ambient LED footwell lighting mod ???

Hi guys,

Just bought a 2000 Silver Insight recently and am so glad I found this site. I've been reading through all the great articles on this forum and just wondering if anyone has added LED lighting to the footwell of their 1st Gen Insight similar to what JimJohnD did?

I know I may be the first Insight owner on this forum not yet modding my car to squeeze more MPG out of it so please forgive me. I'm not too good with electrical stuff and not quite ready to mess with 144v just quite yet so this seems like a safe (low voltage) and easy mod to do. If I wanted to tie this light so it lights up with the rest of the interior lights when the door opens, how would I go about doing that? The dome light in the car is pretty dim and most of the time I have trouble seeing things in the car without turning on the two manual overhead lights. I think this would definitely help a bit. Not to mention it looks quite nice.

Has anyone done something similar before?
