Default Yellow and Orange battery sticks

I wonder if anyone knows if you can mix yellow and orange battery sticks on a 2000 Insight (the one with the Orange sticks).

Thanks,

If they are close on capacity you should be ok. Hybrid Battery repair could give the most definitive answer. the yellow sticks should be newer and might exceed 7AH capacity while the orange ones are the older ones and maxed in the mid 6.5AH range. I have tested some yellow sticks at almost 7.5AH.

It would be hard to answer that question without knowing if the stick you plan on using as a replacement matches the current properties of the other sticks in the pack. If you are replacing a stick that you believe is not within specifications with another that is much better or much worse than the replacement stick, then you may still may end up with an out of balanced battery pack.

Since this is your first post, I'm not sure if you have reviewed the tons of information in this forum and if you are actually testing each stick in whatever method.

Perhaps you could contact Ron at Hybrid-Battery-Repair dot com to figure out what you want to do....He also visits this forum often.

Hope that helps,

Thanks, Mark and Joe. I have read quite a bit but not with anyone asking that specific question. I have located a 2004 Civic pack in Toronto and my intention is to shuffle yellow sticks that have very close output to the older Orange pack. Then I will put good yellow civic sticks into my '05 insight. Hopefully then both packs will be better balanced. I'm using an Electrifly Triton2 EQ

Yes I am a novice and this being my first post I am afraid if I thank all the major contributors on the forum I might hurt someone's feelings if I miss them. It was Mike Dabrowski who inspired me to cycle my batteries so thanks especially to him. There. I bruised everyone's feelings! The truth is, however, that without Insight Central where would we be? So thanks to all!

I have never been able to find any difference between the orange and yellow sticks. It appears that:

Orange sticks were manufactured until mid-2003 probably by Panasonic
Yellow sticks were manufactured after mid-2003 possibly by Sanyo (which was bought by Panasonic)

While the ratings are different, it appears to be more of a change in testing methods than a change in the batteries.

We mix them all the time.

Thanks for your clarification, Ron. If the two stick colours don't matter, can I charge the orange sticks to 7200mah, the same as the yellow sticks? My orange sticks seem to have levelled out at between 5100 and 5600mah when set to a maximum charge of 6500mah. Boosting the input charge to 7200 (or more) might get them higher. Do you think you can do this with the orange sticks?

Thanks,
Rick Hall
