Default Favorite Gen1 Insight Mod

I finally got around to installing a leather steering wheel from an S2000 into my '01 Insight. An RSX steering wheel should fit as well, with the airbag fitting both

It was a direct bolt in and I love the feel of the real leather. It is a big improvement over my slightly worn OE rubberized steering wheel.

This is by far the best mod I have done. Some of my prior mods: Warm Air Intake with fabricated collector on Cat Converter; Armrest; Radator Block; CRV CD Player; Pioneer speaker upgrade; Fumoto Oil Plug drain Valve;

So far my favorite mod I have done on mine is the KN drop in filter.

Do you happen to have any pics of your new S2000 steering wheel? The stock Insight steering wheel reminds me of my old S2000's stock one, I thought they were the same except for leather?

-I think it was from an '01. I hunted eBay for one with "amber" or "orange" display instead of the common blue. Only drawback is that the clock display was a separate unit on top of the CRV dash, therefore the time display feature does not work. The best part is that the black Honda face and display color matches the Insight' interior so well.

-You are right. Looks the same. There are however, a couple of different styles of S2000 steering wheels: some with perforation, some with designs on the humps at 9 and 3'o clock. Mine is all smooth, and came with cruise control buttons too. But you'd have to cut the Insight's steering wheel' lower plastic cover to be able to attach them.

I will take pics and post later.

If I got a second Insight, the first mod I'd do (after inflating tires to 42psi) is a fiberglass grille block. It's simple and effective.

Grill block? Does it improve aerodynamics?

Peeling the roof off is a major mod! I have to say Dad's '67 Datsun 1600 was some of the most fun I've had behind a wheel.

It will require some work underneath to strengthen the structure since it has no chassis, but I am looking now for a wrecked car that still has all 4 wheels in alignment and a good drive train.

No, it wont get the mileage of a whole car and it will weigh a bit more with the needed strengthening, but it will be a beautiful little sports car.
