A 2000 civic uses double wishbone front suspension, the insight is macpherson strut. They didn't make a civic hybrid untill 03 either. You sure you got the year right?

yes, 2000 civic. car is very far from stock. actually rwd now. im after the insight front knuckles to reduce weight up front, and since im not fwd anymore i don't have to worry about the dinky axle up front. yes I also know the insight is mcphearson strut and the civic is double wishbone. Will be fixing this problem by fabricating a welded assembly out of sheet 4130 steel that atatches to the insight knuckle where the strut used to mount and it will go up to the upper control arm of the civic.
my only concern is the lower ball joint. if there is enough material in the insight knuckle to machine out for a lower ball joint in the knuckle instead of the ball joint in the control arm.

if not since it is aluminum i could weld more material to it to make it work.
only thing im not sure of is how im going to make it 5 lug and then machining the brackets to fit rl 4 piston calipers on the front with 11.8" rsx-s brakes.

sry to get on the insight forum just for this info and to find parts, but no one on k20a or other forrums deals with these cars unless its to swap another engine into them.

here is the photobucket of the build. lots of pictures. some things have been changed since.

here is a pic of a fabricated upright by nitro drivelines. my upper part that would be bolted on to the insight knuckle would be based off this design.

and brakes will be mounted like this.

Looks like you really have your work cut out for you. Here's a link to a diagram that shows the knuckle:

Honda Automotive Parts

You would have to weld a bit to add the lower ball joint. I would inspect them regularly too just to make sure those welds aren't cracking since that not something you would typically have welded. I'm sure you can find a few insights being parted in the classifieds that have the knuckles available. If not check out car-parts.com. Have you tracked the progress of your civic in a thread on another forum. Link us up.

hahaha, rwd civic build on an insight thread/ anyways here is the build on k20a.org have to be a member though i think to view pics.

as for the welding of the knuckles they will be good welds. friend who will be adding material to the bottom is x ray cert in tig. he welds turbine blades for m1 abrams tank and helicopter engines every day. so with some good filling and a dummy ball joint to keep the tollerance, some finishing shouldn't be able to tell there was any work done. and be just as strong since im not removing any of the oem material, just adding more to it.

but if anyone knows or can measure the inner id of the wheel bearing and or the od of the wheel hub where it presses into the wheel bearing it would be really appreciated. need to know the diameter to see how much to turn down the s2k front wheel hubs to fit the insight bearing.
