Default 2002 CVT tranny Installation

Well we got a used transmission from the Insight people (Flamboyant) in Ohio, and a garage that is going to help install it! now we would like anyone who has attempted this to share advice and personal stories, anecdotes, mistakes, lessons learned, whilst attempting this proceedure... any shortcuts? one of the garage owners is very apprehensive about Hybrid cars saying you can get a real whammy of a shock and is apprehensive.... I thought this was heresay and not to be of concern if proper proceedures are followed.... I do know that we need to use fresh and only Honda tranny fluid, so that is 1st on my list.
What else ???
Thanks

I've read that transmission swap is really easy on the Insight. Never done it, but that's what people say.

What happened to your CVT to cause you to swap it? How many miles on it?

This is manual transmission stuff but it might help

Read post 18 for some MT install tips, or better yet see if there is anything else helpful on the rest of the thread.

Input Shaft Bearing Replacement

As far as how it relates to the CVT, not sure what the differences would be besides the fact that you aren't going to be taking the CVT apart if you have a replacement instead of trying to pull apart an MT to replace the synchros, ISB, or diff bearings.

Be sure the Honda tranny fluid you are using is for the CVT specificially, it actually will say continuosly variable transmission on the front of the bottle.

If you are under the hood, just be sure the key is in the off position and better yet removed from the ignition, there will be no high voltage electricity flowing to anything under the hood with the ignition off. Just the standard 12v stuff he is already used to. If it puts a shop owner at ease, have him use a T30 Torx driver and pull the small cover under the carpet in the back and flip the switch to off. Although pulling the 12v battery will also prevent the high voltage contactor from engaging the high voltage too so there will be no high voltage in that case either.

You will need to make sure that your car's transmission control module matches up with the replacement transmission. Model year changes were made. Also, be sure to check out the replacement transmission's remaining fluid and/or drain plug for any metal particles before you install it. Metal particles are sure signs of a failing transmission.

If your mechanic is the least bit apprehensive about working on your car, you will need to find someone who understands Hybrid Hondas and Honda Insights in particular. Save yourself a lot of grief and search for a Honda Insight specialist or at least someone who has worked on Hondas and has some Hybrid experience and has access to the manuals, etc.
