Default UK - Thirsk, Yorkshire - the place to go for servicing & modifications

On Thursday and Friday this week I took a trip up to Thirsk and had my Insight serviced and tweaked a little more. I can highly recommend going to see Steve at Auto Tech in Thirsk for your Insight servicing & mechanical needs (Tel: 01845 526192) and Peter (retepsnikrep) on this Forum for electrical or IMA modifications you might need.

I had a service and new Matiz rear springs plus a K&N air filter added by Steve and then Peter added a grid charger. Although it is a bit of trip, it is worth going to see two gentlemen who know the nuances of our Insights, do the job well and can be flexible & friendly. I can also recommend a peaceful B&B called Asenby Hall, literally 100 yards up the road from Peter. If a long trip, I suggest making it a mini-break - when I went to Thirsk last year, I took my wife and dropped her off in York for shopping.

The new Matiz springs have made the rear of my Insight slightly higher but I believe have helped the handling by being firmer and sturdier whilst maintaining the comfort by having a slightly longer travel. The K&N air filter should help the engine 'breathing in' by about 30%, looking at the numbers, which should also help improve power and economy. Peter's grid charger will help maintain the cell balance by charging to 100% and hopefully put off the IMA light for a while longer.

If you are concerned about your local mechanic or worse still your dealership, then for UK Insight owners, I think it is worth making the trip.

+1 to all the above, had my last two yearly services at autotech in Thirsk. Steve does a great Job on the mechanics and Peter has many great gadget to sell too plus a huge amount of knowledge to help diagnose any electronic issues.

Stayed in the summer at the campsite by the race course and was a couple of days well spent. Also there is a great local seafood pub restaurant called the lobster something or other and that was very tasty too.
