De-Limiting The G1

Just a theoretical question (at the moment).

We were having a discussion in the office about what land speed record classes we could go on to break after we have finished out attempt we are working on at the moment.

The question came up "how fast is your Insight".

Which got me thinking, has anybody removed the speed limiter from their Insight?

If there is a speed limiter, which most believe there is set at around 112mph, it will be in the ECM not the instrument cluster. If the ECM uses the VSS pulses to detect speed you could fake that fairly easily.

You could work out the theroretical maximum in 5th at say the 6200 rpm engine red line if you look at the gear/drive ratio and tyre outside diameter. You must have some people who can do that

If you had a good full battery and IMAC&C with current hacks which you saved until you were upto max IC only speed before engaging that might be interesting.

I would not want to do much over 100mph on the stock tyres though so that would be an issue. I think they are generally S 112 or T 118mph rated.

On my rough, simplistic calculations, just on I/C power alone the car should be good for approx 125mph, & about 133mph with 10kw of assist given a 0.25cd, 20sq ft frontal area & mass of 1847lbs.

That's not fitted with an insight engine though so doesnt count in my book.

Way back in the archives here at ICN there is a diagram for removing the speed limiter. I thought I had saved it at one time, but can't find it now.
I'll start searching.

Appreciate that.

I've been on the FIA website and it appears there is no LSR for hybrid cars under 1000cc.

So not only would we hold the ultimate LSR as a team, but also one of the slowest LSR's!!!

I think 5th gear has a maximum speed limit of like 175MPH just based on the gearing.

Obviously a bit unrealistic.
