Hey... a guy can buy a 3D printer for $500, make these inserts, and resell them with enough profit to pay for the printer!

Not for a decent one. You need a selective laser sintering type rather than the type that lays down melted nylon as the finish is far superior.

I could model some if I could ger the handle scanned as we laser sinter Titanium.

I was going to ask if you work in aerospace making jet engine parts.. well do you? You got my attention with the sinter metals bit

Used to be in aerospace as a design engineer. Then moved on to designing small slow cars for Williams F1. I'm now designing a slightly larger, slightly faster car for an attempt on the land speed record.

What class will the vehicle be running in.
I set a record in (Motorcycle A-C-200 back in 1970) Bonneville.
Since then that class is no longer available.
