I wouldnt mind the red across the rear top of the hatch. The brows are getting old, seems all the new cars are coming with them. I like having amber lamps on the sides and inside edge near the grill.

Maybe if those were amber I would like them better?

They are available in many colors, red, blue, yellow, orange, green, purple and two whites.

Each time I order LEDs, seem like they get better and brighter.
The ones in my Airstream installed 5 years ago are now vintage LEDs.

Many states have laws about what color lights on cars are allowed to be - in California, tail lights must be red. I'd look up laws in your state before changing exterior lighting colors.

I really doubt that green/blue/purple lamps would be allowed anywhere.

Seriously. If you have your foot on the brake, your lights should stay on. If you've let off the brakes, they should go off, but NOT for any other reason. blinking doesn't say,"look at me, I'm braking." It says that you are lightly pressing on the brakes and crossing back and forth over that threshold where the brake light switch is activating.

I think those blinking modules should be illegal, and if I were to ever rear end anyone with one, I'd definitely take them to court. To me that is the same as driving with non-functioning brake lights.

Brake lights are about communication, and this affects the way they communicate. Whether conciously or subconciously drivers interpret brake lights based on what they've seen cars do in the past.

If you were to get rear ended and wonder why it happened even though you have this 'safer' setup, I'd say it's like ordering at a restaurant speaking Swahili, then wondering why the waiter won't bring you your food even though you've politely explained at length exactly what you want. The waiter has an opportunity to say he doesn't understand and request you speak his language. I am now exercising my opportunity to do the same: Please don't run that blinking unit!

I see where you're coming from about signal standardization, but the few times I've seen the flashing brake lights I've thought they were a good way to communicate "I'm starting to brake".

I saw a bicycle with an accelerometer-based automatic flashing brake light the other day and thought that was genius.

Flashing or increasing-brightness lights seem like they could communicate the deceleration rate more quickly than watching the car's range decrease, especially in the dark where distance is harder to judge. There are probably some good masters' theses in there somewhere.

What I don't understand is how a modern car could be sold with red-only turn signals.
