Default Intake Air Temperature Sensor

Hi... I'm new to this sight and looking for a little help. Thanks in advance. I have a 2000 Honda Insight and I'm trying to install a resister on the IAT sensor, but not exactly sure where it is. I think I've found it but would like confirmation. I installed the resistor on what I think is the Temperature sensor and did notice an increase in power the first time I drove it, but as I expected the increase in power results in a decrease in fuel economy. Not much though about 1 to 2 MPG. If you have a picture it would be gratly appreciated. Please send to my email address, burdettgj@peoplepc.com. Thanks again

Hello jburdett,

The Air intake sensor is installed inside the plumbing from the air cleaner
to the engine (The larger of the two rubber hoses) .. There is another
outside air sensor mounted on the front bumber close to were the license
plate would go...That one is used for idle stop measurements.

That resistor tricks the computer into thinking that the engine (or the
air intake) is cold all of the time...The computer provides a richer mixture
of fuel vs air to give you more power...But just as you said...the fuel
mileage would go down. It may affect other things as well such as fast
idle or battery charging (although the batteries may have there own
sensors)...

I guess a modification could be if you add a mini relay to the resistor
(controlled by a switch near the driver) you could possibly toggle this
resistor on or off (although back on may require an ignition switch off
then restart to go to cold condition again) I would not suggest just a
switch without the relay because of the resistance in the wire you
choose may affect the FAKE reading to be out of range then you may
get a check engine light...

Default Air intake sensor

Certainly appreciate the quick response. I instaled the resistor on the plug on the outside of the aircleaner. this was as close as I could come with the illistration that came with it. Problem is that the illistration wasn't an insight. I definitely got one of the sensors for the ecu though. I made a big difference in the power. I'll pull the aircleaner when I get home tonight and see if there is another plug there. I didn't see any wires going to it though. I do know that the IAT sensor is a two wire plug and the one I used is the only one that is close to the aircleaner. I know when I got out on the highway this morning and needed power it was there.... Wow , it was a far cry from what I usually have. Thanks again

I would be worried about using that resiston on the insight. You might end up in perpetual warmup mode..... thats bad! You end up with a perpetual warmup enrichment. I supose that will make a little more power in some rpm regiems.

Just out of curiosity... did you get it on ebay? Did they advertize something like 20% more power.... i guess on an insight getting 10 hp would be like getting 15%. I would be crious to see the before and after dyno runs though.

If this is a true test.... here is the website to look at the performance rates. http://www.speedydelivery.co.uk/car-tun ... ight.shtml. It did seem to increase performance. More power but with a decrease in MPG. I guess it is a trade off depending on how you drive. That is the real challenge with this car... getting the best economy. I will probably not leave this on but it is fun having a little more power. I didn't notice any adverse effects on the engine. it warmed up and still cruised fine, but the electric assist is definitely more responsive.
