Default Help finding the cardboard radiator mod

HI,

It has been a few months since I have been on the forum. Can someone point me to the posts that describe and show pictures of the modification where cardboard is placed in front of the radiator to improve mileage? I can't seem to find it.

Thanks,
Honeyboy

I would use a ScanGagueII to monitor coolant temps when you do have the radiator blocked. It will also monitor intake air temps if you do the warm-air modification.

I just installed mine yesterday. I used the corragated plastic material they make campaign and real estate signs out of. I checked the temp of my radiator to the touch after I had driven it and it didn't sem anywhere near hot enough to melt the plastic. I cut it to the demensions that the Insightful Trekker listed and as an additioanl step so I could get it back out, ran a piece of 20# test fish line throught the corregated tube in the plastic and back up the adjoining one (on the right side of the plastic block), tying a knot at the top. Then I made a loop in the end and hooked it over the radiator cap. The space between the a/c condensor and the radiator is so small, if you just drop it in, you may never get it out.

Some type of ready retrieval "system" is a good idea. Remember the size you chose will NOT be correct for sustained heavy load conditions. But for the "stubborn to remove" cardboard pieces simply loosen the top radiator tank strap bolt (10 mm hex head) and tilt the radiator back a couple of inches. Then you can see what your fishing for.

HTH!
