Default Shutting engine off while in auto-stop to park

Pretty much every time I get home and enter my driveway my insight it goes into auto-stop. Lately I've been shutting my engine off before I switch into park so the engine doesn't turn on (when I switch to park) just before I shut it off.

Does this save a decent amount of gas? Is it hard on my engine or anything like that? Would you recommend it or advise me to stop doing it?

Thanks for your advice

I've been doing it for years in my Insight. I can't imagine it doing any harm at all.

i cant imagine it saves any large amount of gas

but as we all know, alot of little amounts of gas add up

and i do it all the time, but i have a MT, so i know that putting it in 1st after the engine is off doesnt hurt it, i have no idea if its hard on a CVT to do that

I do that every time I park my CVT, and have been doing so for a couple years with no apparent ill effect.

It's not the gas I'm trying to save, its the battery charge. Why go thru another start up and then shut down immediately? It just uses up charge for no good reason that I can figure.

Seems silly to have the engine kick back on for no reason and shutting it off does not seem like it would hurt anything.

I kill the engine about a mile away from my house and coast all the way into the garage. This is dangerous so I wouldn't recommend it to others.
