Default mpg

hi!
thanks for everyone's earlier feedback on multiple questions!

New One (or comment, 2001 mt):

i assume i have met my max MPG for this area. the trip-meter, for the past 4,500,0 miles fluctuates between 65.5 mpg to 65.8mpg to a Brief 66.0 mpg before dropping back to 65.5 mpg. is this common?

this is just a fyi/ exploration posting. i cound not find a general page for current average mpg displays with-out modifications, stock only. i plan on searching for ways to increase mpg sooner or later!

thanks again

Great thread title.

No, you haven't yet reached the limit of what the Insight is capable of. Some folks have pulled off 100+mpg trips in a stock Insight. With further modifications to your driving style, including perhaps more coasting and engine-off work, you should be able to do a little better. Still, 65-66mpg is perfectly respectable IMO.

Try living in Phoenix with it STILL being 105 out, the AC is killing my MPG, only got about 50 MPG on this tank. Your 65 is sounding pretty good to me!

I live in the Phoenix area and my last tank was 96.1 mpg. My current tank is 96.5 mpg for the last ~550 miles. I'm not sure I could get my mpg that low if I tried!!!

Of course, I don't use the A/C....

And the heat you guys have down there really helps achieve high MPG's as well.

Earlier this summer we had a very hot (for us) 95°F day and on the way home the car gave 117 mpg on the 33 mile trip home from work.
